ST. LOUIS, MO. - Dwayne Evans had 16 points and 14 rebounds to lead Saint Louis (6-11; 1-3 A-10) to a 67-51 win over Saint Joseph's (5-12; 0-4) at Chaifetz Arena. Carl Jones had 10 points for the Hawks.

Both teams entered the game seeking their first conference win of the season. Saint Louis took the lead early on, and paced by 13 first-half points from Evans, owned a 29-19 lead at halftime.

The Billikens maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second half, with the biggest margin being 15 points. With SLU leading 62-47 on a three-pointer by Mike McCall, the Hawks scored four straight, and a jumper by C.J. Aiken pulled SJU within 62-51 with over three minutes to play. But SJU would not get any closer and the final score was the Billikens' largest margin of the game.

Saint Joseph's shot 46.4 percent in the second half, while Saint Louis hit just 32 percent in that period. The Billikens held an advantage at the foul line, making 21-of-29 while the Hawks were just 7-for-12.

Jones was the only Hawk in double figures but Aiken had nine points and Ronald Roberts had seven rebounds for SJU, which lost its fourth in a row.

"I tried everything I could to keep us fresh and upbeat, but we looked like five lonely souls who have been away from home all week. But things just didn't go well," said Hawk coach Phil Martelli. "We had a great defensive possession but then McCall hit a shot and we just couldn't deal with that kind of disappointment."

The Hawks have been on the road since Tuesday when they bused to Dayton for Wednesday's game. "We stay in nice places and eat well. Nothing logistically would cause us to play lethargically. My responsibility now is to make them feel good about their games and parts of their games, and we'll get back to it on Monday."

The Hawks return home from the two-game road trip to host Rhode Island on Wednesday, January 19 at Hagan Arena.
