BETHLEHEM, PA - Despite a career-high 11 saves by sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bastianelli, it wasn't enough for the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team as the Hawks fell at Lehigh, 1-0, Friday evening.
The Mountain Hawks out shot SJU 14-4 in the opening stanza, but Bastianelli kept Saint Joseph's even with Lehigh behind seven saves.
After nearly 30 more minutes of scoreless play, Lehigh struck in the 74th minute as Melissa Montalvo centered a pass to teammate Danielle Fritz in the SJU box. Fritz took the pass and beat Bastianelli to put Lehigh up 1-0 at 73:44.
Down one, the Hawks continued to fight, but it wasn't meant to be as Lehigh held on for the victory.
For the game, the Mountain Hawks out shot SJU 29-11 and held a 10-4 edge in corners.
Individually, Bastianelli made a game-high 11 saves, but saw her record fall to 2-4 on the season in the hard-fought loss.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-4 on the year, while Lehigh improves to 4-1-2.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday, September 23, at Princeton. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
