PHILADELPHIA - Langston Gallowayconnected on back-to-back three-pointers in the final two minutes, and Saint Joseph's ended the game with a 12-0 run, as the Hawks defeated Xavier, 59-49, in Atlantic 10 action at Hagan Arena.

Galloway, who finished with 15 points, hit the first at 2:09 to give the Hawks (11-7; 2-3 A-10) a 53-49 lead. He followed with another with 1:01 remaining to increase it to 56-49.

Trailing 47-45, Saint Joseph's hit six straight free throws, with four from Kanacevic, to tie the game at 47-47 with under five minutes to go. Jones then hit a three at 3:22 to give the Hawks their first lead of the half, 50-49, which they would keep the rest of the way.

Jones also scored 15 points as did Halil Kanacevic, who added eight rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots. C.J. Aikentied his career-high with 10 rebounds.

Xavier (11-8; 4-2) was led by freshman Semaj Christon, who scored 16 points, while Jeff Robinson had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Saint Joseph's missed its first nine shots of the second half, while Xavier went on 9-0 run to go up 33-30. Kanacevic broke the Hawks' string with a basket almost six minutes into the half. With Xavier up by two, C.J. Aikenfollowed with a three-pointer to tie the score at 35-35.

The Hawks struggled from the field in the second half, hitting just 8-of-28 shots, but Xavier shot 34.4 percent for the team and just 1-of-13 from three-point range.

"I thought we competed a little bit harder. Everyone gave everything that they had. I thought that one of the things we were able to do was be able to get Christon to not go straight to the basket," said coach Phil Martelli. "I think a really big deal is not fouling. Just not fouling. They got extra points on put-backs and there wasn't a lot of transition in the game. I thought the score would be somewhere in the low 60s. You could see a little bit of doubt and question. Tay hit a big three. Langston hit a big three and then another big three."

In the first half, Galloway hit three consecutive three-pointers to give the Hawks a 19-12 lead at 8:33. Xavier answered with a three by Dee Davis, but then Daryus Quarleshit the Hawks' fourth straight three-pointer to take at 22-15 lead with 7:22 to play. Saint Joseph's extended the lead to 30-22 on a three-point play by Kanacevic. Xavier cut it to 30-26 on a hook shot by Jeff Robinson at :28, which remained the halftime score.

The Hawks will visit Fordham on Wednesday, January 30 at 7 p.m. before returning to Hagan Arena to meet Temple in a Big 5 and Atlantic 10 matchup on Saturday, February 2.
