BOSTON – Will McNamara, a graduate student midfielder for the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse program this spring, has been selected and added to the Chesapeake Bayhawks' practice squad, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Major League Lacrosse teams selected 14 players from the Class of 2018 who registered for the MLL Player Pool. Undrafted college seniors were eligible to register for the MLL Player Pool at the conclusion of the NCAA season.
McNamara transferred in after three seasons at the University of Virigina in time for the Hawks' 2018 season and made a seamless transition as an integral member of SJU's dominant transition unit, making all 15 appearances on the spring. McNamara ranked fourth on the squad in ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (eight) and added 14 points on nine goals and five assists to lead the transition unit on the offensive end of the field.
McNamara turned the ball over just twice in 15 games played and went the first 11 games without a turnover. He put up three goals and four ground balls in the Northeast Conference postseason en route to being named to the 2018 NEC All-Tournament Team.
McNamara graduated from the University of Virginia in May 2017 with a degree in English and is pursuing an M.S. in Financial Services from Saint Joseph's University.
