Saint Joseph's enters Saturday's game following an 18-15, season-opening loss at Georgetown on Saturday; junior midfielder Rebecca Lane went for two goals and a team-high three assists for a team-high five points while junior attacker Francesca Donato tallied a team-high three goals for the hat trick. SJU's rookies impressed in their collegiate debuts as freshman attacker Stephanie Kelly (2g, 1a), freshman attacker Sam McGee (1g, 2a), and freshman midfielder Taylor Newman-Farr (2g) combined for eight points.
Central Connecticut State went 4-12 and 3-4 in the Northeast Conference last spring. The Blue Devils lost two of their top three scorers from a year ago in Marissa Soto (50g, 5a) and Jessica Giangarra (22g, 6a) due to graduation but return second-leading scorer and 2017 All-NEC First Team pick Megan Szawlowski, who went for 30 goals and team-high 27 assists last year. CCSU also returns goalkeeper Jackie Branthover, who played every minute (960:00) in the Blue Devils' 4-12 season last spring, making 178 saves.
Saturday’s game will mark the third time in program history and the first time since 2001 that the Hawks and Blue Devils will meet. SJU put up 15 goals in each of its two program victories over Central Connecticut, with a 15-5 home win on March 18, 2000 and a 15-3 home win on March 17, 2001.
