Senior James Demery has been named the Big 5 Co-Player of the Week for January 8, as he helped Saint Joseph's to two wins last week, sharing the honor with Ryan Betley of Penn.
The 6-6 forward averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in the two Atlantic 10 wins. He scored a team-high 24 points in 85-78 win over St. Bonaventure, hitting 61.5 percent (8-13) from the field, while making 2-for-4 from three-point range and 6-for-7 from the line.
Demery opened last week with 13 points in the 78-72 overtime win over VCU while scoring the 1,000th point of his career. He reached the plateau with his fifth point of the game and became the 54th Hawk to achieve the feat. Demery also had eight rebounds and three steals in the win.
The Hawks' leading scorer with 17.4 points per game, he has notched double figures in all 14 games and has scored 20-plus points three times.
Saint Joseph's (7-7; 2-1 A-10) has won two straight and will visit George Mason (7-9; 1-2) on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
