Magee Awarded Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's men's track and field and cross country senior Jack Magee has been selected one of 14 recipients of the annual Atlantic 10 Postgraduate Scholarship, conference officials announced on Thursday.

Magee is a seven-time track and field point scorer at the Atlantic 10 Track and Field Championships level between the 4x800m relay (30 points) and 1000m (13 points). The track and field captain earned a the silver medal in the 1000m at the 2016 indoor meet and has taken home three medals in the 4x8, including silver at the 2015 outdoor meet and bronze at the 2016 outoor meet and 2017 indoor meet. Magee is also a five-time IC4A Track and Field Championships All-East selection and ran on the first-place 4x800m relay at the 2015 outdoor meet and second-place 4x800m relay at the 2016 indoor meet.

The senior caps his collegiate career with track and field PRs in the 800m (1:52.89) and 1000m (2:28.76) and an 8k PR of 25:49.3 for cross country.

Magee is a three-year Dean's list recipient as well as a member the Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He also was an A-10 All-Academic Team selection in the 2016 indoor season. Magee also took part in the Martin Luther King Day of Service and helped collect money and purchase food for the Saint Joseph's Christmas and Thanksgiving baskets for the less fortunate members of the community.

The North Wales, Pennsylvania native and La Salle College High School product will graduate from Saint Joseph's University this weekend with a degree in finance and financial planning and will remain on Hawk Hill for his postgraduate studies.

All 14 honorees will receive $5,000 to contribute towards full-time enrollment in a postgraduate or professional program. Designed to provide graduating student-athletes the opportunity to continue their education, the program awards $70,000 in scholarship funding to former A-10 student-athletes. This marks the third straight year the Atlantic 10 has provided the scholarships to 14 individuals, and over the past six years, the A-10's Postgraduate Scholarship program has awarded over $250,000 to 64 former student-athletes.

“Congratulations to each of these deserving young men and women,” stated Atlantic 10 Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade. “The opportunity to provide for advanced education for this exemplary group is a part of the commitment our member institutions make toward the academic success of their student-athletes. This is a prestigious honor and we wish each of the honorees continued success with their postgraduate education.”

The selection process, which involves the league's athletic directors, senior woman administrators and faculty athletic representatives, resulted in a class with an average GPA of 3.71. The class is comprised of 10 female student-athletes and four males, representing six different sports.
