Saint Joseph’s field hockey head coach Lynn Farquhar has announced the addition of Chris Mills to the Hawk coaching staff. Mills is a 2015 graduate of the University of South Wales.
“I'm excited to welcome Chris to the Hawk family,” Farquhar said. “Chris is dedicated to the sport, embraces challenges, and worked incredibly hard to join our squad. His playing experience and hockey background will add a new dynamic to our team, which I expect to help propel our players group forward.”
“I am really looking forward to joining the Saint Joseph’s community, and am humbled by the opportunity that has been given to me,” Mills said. “I am excited to learn about USA Field Hockey and share my own experience with EuroHockey.”
Mills began his hockey career in high school, competing for Devonport High School for Boys and the Plymstock Sports Partnership, for whom he competed in the National Schools Championship for Boys.
At the University level, Mills was elected the first-ever captain of the University of South Wales hockey team, and served as a player-coach. He tallied 22 goals over the course of two seasons as USW narrowly missed out on promotion to the next tier of competition.
During his tenure at USW, Mills assisted with the women’s team as well, helping guide the squad to three consecutive promotions, all the way to the top league in the nation, as well as an appearance in the final 16 of the Western Conference Cup.
Mills played his club hockey for Whitchurch HC, which regularly competed in both indoor and outdoor events across Europe and was rated one of the top teams in all of Wales, while also serving as an assistant manager. While Mills was at the club, Whitchurch won the Hockey Wales championship final and took part in the EuroHockey Club Championship in Cagliari, Italy.
A native of England, Mills graduated from USW with a degree in sport and exercise science.
