NORRISTOWN, PA - La Salle (11-17, 5-4 A-10) pushed across the lead run on a suicide squeeze in the seventh inning to defeat Saint Joseph's (7-20, 3-3 A-10) in Atlantic 10 baseball at Latshaw-McCarthy Field, 3-2. Junior Greg Mason hit a two-run home run for the Hawks.
A tight game throughout, La Salle took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Hawk starter Bob Unkel. SJU answered back and took the lead on Mason's homer in the bottom of the second and chased La Salle starter Anthony Bocaglia from the game.
Hawk bats were silenced the rest of the way as the Explorers' Craig Mushko (1-2) pitched 4.1 scoreless and Gerard Breslin went the final three innings to pick up his sixth save. Unkel (1-5) went seven strong innings but suffered the setback. Jeff Williams wen the final two frames.
La Salle tied the game with a double, a sacrifice and a groundball out in the fifth. They then won it when Dennis Burge tripled with one out and scored on the squeeze.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday at Penn.
