NELSON EARNS A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WEEK

PHILADELPHIA (12/6/03) - Saint Joseph's standout Jameer Nelson has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week for the third consecutive week. Nelson helped the 12th-ranked Hawks to two wins last to improve to 5-0 on the season. Nelson, who has received the conference honor in all three weeks of the season thus far, shares the award with Anthony Anderson of Massachusetts. The senior point guard has earned the A-10's Player of the Week award eight times in his career. Nelson averaged 20.5 points, 6.5 steals, 5.0 assists, and 4.0 rebounds in both games. He had 18 points, six assists and five steals in just 22 minutes of action in the Hawks' 84-52 rout of San Francisco on Dec. 2. He then followed that with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and a career-high eight steals in SJU's 67-59 win over Pennsylvania in the Big 5 Classic (Dec. 6). Nelson shot 17-for-29 (.586) from the field on the week. The National Player of the Year candidate is averaging a team-high 19.6 points per game. Saint Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 9 in a battle of unbeaten teams, as the Hawks host Boston College at the Palestra. Game time is 4 p.m. for the contest which can be seen on CN8.
