CHARLOTTE, NC (03/13/02) - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team exploded for 20 hits in a 14-1 win over Saint Joseph's. The victory was Charlotte's fourth straight, while SJU lost its fourth in a row. Charlotte evened its season record at 8-8, while the Hawks slipped to 1-10-1. Charlotte took an early 4-0 lead with four runs on four hits in the second inning. B SJU scored its only run when Justin Godusky scored on Michael Walls' single to center field in the fourth inning. Charlotte increased their lead to 5-1 in the fourth inning. The 49ers then added another run in the fifth inning. UNCC exploded for five runs on five hits in the sixth inning to break the game wide-open and increase their lead to 11-1. Charlotte scored three runs in the seventh inning to make the final score, 14-1. Charlotte pitcher John Maine recorded his second win of the season as he totalled a season-high nine strikeouts in the game. Freshman Ryan Hoagey threw five innings and suffered the loss to fall to 0-2. The two teams conclude their series with a makeup game on Thursday, March 14 at 3 pm. the game replaces Tuesday's contest which was postponed due to rain.
