NEWARK, DE (4/16/03) - A late four run rally, including a two-run home run by junior Nick Baldasari in the ninth, was not enough to overcome a fifth inning grand slam, as the Saint Joseph's baseball team (10-19) dropped a 6-4 decision to Delaware at Bob Hannah Stadium. Blue Hen senior Steve Harden belted a grand slam in the fifth inning to give Delaware a 5-0 lead after five innings. Saint Joseph's cut the deficit to three in the seventh on a Jake Iampietro two-out double to right field, scoring senior John Kokol and junior Jason Tareiwcz. The Hawks struck for two more runs in the ninth, as Baldasari drilled a two-run home run over the left field fence. Tarewicz followed with a double to bring the tying runto the plate with no one out, but the Hawks could not push across the equalizing runs. Delaware's Joe Coudon allowed seven hits and four earned runs in his eight innings of work, walking just one, to notch his first career victory. Jason Volker (1-2) took the loss for the Hawks, going six innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits while striking out two. The Hawks will play a three-game series at Fordham on Friday and Saturday.
