PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's- Gonzaga game on New Year's Eve has been added to ESPN's college basketball schedule and will be broadcast on ESPN2. This addition gives the Hawks a school-record eight national television appearances for the regular season.
The game will tip-off at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time from the McCarthey Athletic Center in Spokane, WA.
The teams have only met three times thus far, but all have been memorable games, with SJU holding a 2-1 lead. On New Year's Eve 2001, Gonzaga won, 83-80, in Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. In Spokane the following New Year's Eve, the Hawks returned the favor, defeating the Zags, 79-78, in overtime. SJU defeated Gonzaga on November 14, 2003 in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in New York before a national audience, a win which started the run to the perfect regular season.
This season, the Hawks make their first television appearance on December 6 against Kansas in the Jimmy V Classic on ESPN.
The full television schedule for Saint Joseph's is currently being finalized and will be announced once it is complete.
