THREE-RUN EIGHTH LIFTS MAINE OVER SJU, 9-6

SANFORD, FL (3/09/04) - The University of Maine baseball team defeated Saint Joseph's University 9-6 on Tuesday night in Sanford, Fla. The Black Bears improve to 3-6 on the season with the win, while SJU fell to 2-14. Junior Joe DiNubile had a three-run homer for the Hawks and sophomore Greg Mason added a pair of doubles. The Black Bears scored a run in each of the first two innings, before the Hawks came back to take a 3-2 lead in the third inning and added to its lead with a run in the fourth. The Black Bears scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead, but once again, St. Joseph's rallied to tie the game at 6-6 in the eighth. Maine answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth to earn the 9-6 win. UM's Scott Robinson pitched the final 1.2 inning to earn his first win of the season, SJU's Joe Mucci (0-3) took the loss in relief. Freshman Joel Grimshaw started for the Hawks. The Black Bears return to action on Wednesday, March 10 when they face St. Joseph's at 2:00 in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
