PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's fans attending the home opener against Fairfield contributed a generous $3,000 to "Help the Hawks Help Others", which will allow the men's basketball team to buy gifts for selected needy families in the Philadelphia area.

"The generosity of our fans is overwhelming and we appreciate all they've done to help make this project a success. This demonstration of kindness and charity truly represents all that is good about the people of Saint Joseph's University," said Hawk coach Phil Martelli.

The team will use the money to shop for gifts for the families on December 14 at the K-Mart on Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights, PA. The players then wrap all of the gifts and deliver the gifts on December 19.

This marks the 10th year of the project which is coordinated by the University's Campus Ministry.
