PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's men's basketball will celebrate its Centennial and also begin a new era in 2009-10, in the inaugural season of the Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena, as the game times and the television schedule were announced today. The Hawks open the season on November 13 hosting city rival Drexel at 7 p.m.
Saint Joseph's will make nine appearances on national and regional television, with the possibility of more being added. The Hawks' annual rivalry game with Villanova on December 9 at The Palestra will be seen on ESPN2 while the Dayton game on January 23 will be broadcast on ESPNU. Saint Joseph's game at Massachusetts on February 14 will be televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
The Hawks have six games on the slate that will be seen regionally on either Comcast SportsNet or The Comcast Network. The Atlantic 10 opener at Hagan Arena vs. Fordham (Jan. 9) will be seen on Comcast SportsNet, as will the February 20 game against Temple from The Palestra.
The Hawks will begin and end the regular season facing city teams on campus as the finale against La Salle on March 6 will be played at Hagan Arena, and televised by Comcast SportsNet.
The Comcast Network will air three games - at Temple (Jan. 6), at Duquesne (Jan. 31) and versus Saint Louis (Feb. 9).
The season opener on November 13 culminates the two-year expansion and renovation of Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse, which has been the home of the Hawks since 1949. Hagan Arena now provides numerous other amenities that were not available in the Fieldhouse and has a capacity of 4,200.
Saint Joseph's will officially dedicate the Hagan Arena on Saturday, October 17 at 5 p.m. with a special ceremony, which will also mark the beginning of the Centennial Celebration of Hawk basketball.
