NORRISTOWN, PA (04/04/02) - Villanova jumped out to an 11-0 lead and then coasted to a 17-2 victory over Saint Joseph's at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. The Wildcats upped their record to 16-11 with the victory, while SJU falls to 4-22-1. Senior Pace Bradshaw had a couple of hits for the Crimson and Gray. The SJU pitching staff was unable to hold Villanova in check as the Wildcats banged out 21 hits and scored in each of the games first six innings, putting the game out of reach with four runs in the fifth and six in the sixth. Nick Allen (2-0) tossed five innings for the victory, while Hawks' freshman Al Braun dropped to 0-7 on the year. Braun was relieved by the quartet of sophomores Joe Mucci, and Scott Gehringer, freshman Joe DiNubile and senior Mike Minerva. Minerva and Mucci combined to hold the Wildcats in check over the fiinal 3.2 innings. Offensively, St. Joe's mustered only single runs in the fifth and eighth innings. Bradshaw accounted for two of SJU's eight hits. SJU hosts Atlantic 10 West leader and nationally ranked Richmond in a three-game set over the weekend.
