NORRISTOWN, PA (4/27/04) - Despite leading 9-5 after four innings, Saint Joseph's (9-35) watched Coppin State (16-30) rally for an 11-9 victory at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. Sophomore Ryan Stadanlick went 3-5 with a home run, triple, double two runs scored and four RBI, while senior Bill McCollum and sophomore Dustin Onulak each contributed three hits. SJU jumped on Coppin starter Brian Crossley scoring twice in the first inning as Stadanlick led off the home half of the frame with a solo home run to straight-away center field. CSC, however, tallied five times in the top of the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Hawks then tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to trim the lead to 5-4 on a two-run double by Stadanlick. SJU went on top and knocked Crossley from the game with five runs in the fourth to lead 9-5 after four innings. Tommy Stratchko and Nathan Penrose relieved Crossley and proceeded to shut SJU down over the next 5.2 innings. The Eagles, Meanwhile tied the game with four runs off Hawk Starter Joel Grimshaw in the fifth. They then scored the go-ahead run off Grimshaw in the sixth, before Jeff Williams took the hill for SJU. Williams allowed one run on six hits over the final 3.2 innings. Stratchko (3-5) picked up the win for Coppin with Penrose gaining his fourth save of the year. Grimshaw (0-2) suffered the loss. In addition to Stadanlick, McCollum and Onulak, Brian Schappert and Nick Baldasari each added two hits. Coppin State was led by Teon Richburg, who went 3-5 with two runs. Jay Riggs, Eddie Wilson and Greg Fleet added two hits each. Nick Wenger and Carlos D'Costa had three RBI apiece. Saint Joseph's returns to the field on Wednesday playing Lehigh at Limeport Stadium.
