PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's baseball team lost the first game of its 2007 spring break trip, falling 22-1 to the Michigan State Spartans at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, FL. Sophomore Chris Prescott took the loss after just one-third of an inning of work. Craig Brookes started for the Spartans and recorded the win, surrendering just two hits over five innings.
The Spartans (2-2) took control of the game early, scoring nine runs in the first inning alone. MSU tallied four in the second, one in the third and three in the fifth to take a 17-0 lead before SJU got on the board.
Leading off the seventh for the Hawks (0-9), junior Jeremy Jakubowski drilled a triple to left field. Junior Michael Gers then brought Jakubowski home with a one-out grounder to short for the lone Hawk tally on the day.
The Hawks return to the diamond Monday afternoon when they take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM in Clearwater, FL.
