BOXSCORE2 PHILADELPHIA (3/22/03) - Despite getting quality pitching from starters Brian Anecharico and Bill McCollum, the Saint Joseph's baseball team (1-12, 0-2 A-10) was swept by La Salle (3-8, 2-0 A-10) in the opening weekend of Atlantic 10 play for both schools. The Explorers hed on for a 3-2 win and game one and rallied for a 5-3 victory in the second game of a twin-bill at Hank DeVincent Field. Anecharico tossed a complete game, two-hitter in the opener and the Hawks outhit La Salle 4-2, but La Salle scored a pair of runs in the third and one in the fifth to earn the win. Junior Nick Baldasari accounted for both Hawk runs with a homer in the second and an RBI single in the seventh. Baldasari's RBI single made things interesting as SJU crept within a single run and had runners at the corners, but a fielder's choice ended the threat. Anecharic dropped to 0-4 on the year, while LSU's Bryan Harvey (1-2) gained the win. Eric Ruhland picked up the save. In the second game the Hawks went on top 2-0 in the first inning and led 3-2 after four innings, but Ruhland hit a three-run homer of Hawk releiver Erik Holman in the fifth to give the Explorers the win. Freshman Ryan Stadanlick homered for the Hawks. Holman (0-2) suffered the defeat and Anthony Boscaglia gained the victory. Ruhland also collected the save in game two. The two teams conclude their three game series with a single nine inning game on Sunday at noon.
