OLEAN, NY (4/27/03) - Six errors by the Saint Joseph's baseball team (15-24, 9-9 A-10) allowed St. Bonaventure (19-14-1, 7-7 A-10) to win the final game of a three-game Atlantic 10 series at McGraw-Jennings Field, 14-6. Juniors Nick Baldasari and Bill McCollum, as well as freshman Ryan Stadanlick each had two hits. The Hawks fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but a four run second inning helped SJU to briefly take the lead. A Bonnie error opened the door for St. Joe's. Seniors Mike DeLorenzo and Kevin Dougher both delivered RBI doubles in the frame. Bona scratched back a single run in the bottom of the second and then went ahead for good thanks to a six-run fourth. A Hawk misplay on a sacrifice bunt attempt loaded the bases and a pair of two-run doubles were the big blows for the Bonnies. An error by St. Bonaventure allowed SJU to get back another run in the fifth, but the Crimson and Gray committed two errors in a four-run sixth inning that broke the game open. SBU added another run in the seventh and SJU tacked on a single tally in the eighth to close out the scoring. The Hawks loaded the bases in the ninth with one out, but were unable to push any more runs home. Junior Erik Vardijan (3-4) took the loss, allowing 12 runs, although just six were earned, in five innings. Senior Erik Holman pitched the final three innings. SBU's Matt Gunesch (2-1) pitched 7.1 innings for the victory. SJU will play a pair of games against Towson on Tuesday and are presently slated to host Drexel on Wednesday evening.
