BOXSCORE2 NORRISTOWN, PA (5/01/04) - Miscues in the field doomed Saint Joseph's (9-37, 3-14 A-10) in game one and Fordham (20-21-1, 10-7 A-10) erupted in game two, sweeping a baseball doubleheader at Latshaw-McCarthy FIeld, 5-2 and 20-4. Sophomore Ryan Stadanlick and freshman Brian Schappert contributed three hits apiece in the doubleheader. In the first game both starting pitchers went the distance, nearly mirroring one another with their efforts. Fordham's John Baco (5-2) allowed two runs on six hits with two strikeouts. SJU's Ryan Hoagey (2-6) surrendered seven hits and five runs, although just two were earned, and struck out two. The Rams broke on top 2-0 in the second, but the Hawks sliced it in half with a run in the fourth. FU then scored three times as SJU committed four errors in the fifth inning to build a commanding lead. Stadanlick cracked a solo home run in the bottom half of the frame to close out the scoring. In the second game, Fordham struck early and often scoring five times in the top of the first and adding at least one run in each of the seven innings. The Rams led 6-0, but SJU trimmed the lead in half with three runs in the bottom of the second. Fordham then added three runs in the third, one each in the fourth and fifth, five in the sixth and four more in the seventh. SJU added just a single run in the third. Stadanlick and Matt Godusky each had a couple of hits for the Hawks. Fordham's Drew Adler was 3-4 with two runs and two RBI, Jeremy Bourgeois was 3-3 with three runs and two RBI, Kevin Brush went 2-4 with three runs and five RBI. David Rodriguez (4-4) allowed four runs on six hits to earn the win. Andre Paolillio worked a scoreless seventh. SJU's Jason Volker (2-5) allowed nine runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings. Bill McCollum, Bob Unkel, Pat Santone and Joe Mucci combined to work the final 4.1 innings, but could not shut Fordham down. The teams will play the final game of the three-game series on Sunday at 10:00 AM. The starting time was moved up do to impending inclement weather.
