OLEAN, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's baseball team lost the second game of its weekend series on Saturday, falling to St. Bonaventure, 4-1, at Fred Handler Park. Anthony Cirillo had an RBI single to tie the game in the fifth, but the Bonnies posted a three-spot in the sixth to secure the win.
St. Bonaventure (18-17 overall, 6-8 Atlantic 10) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Billy Urban was hit by a pitch and came in to score on a squeeze bunt by Justin Brozick.
Saint Joseph's (18-24 overall, 8-5 Atlantic 10) got even in the fifth on Cirillo's base hit. Stefan Kancylarz led off the frame with an infield single before stealing second and scoring on the two-out single by Cirillo.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth. With two outs and the bases loaded, Michael Meredith hit a single up the middle to score Urban and Ryan Skellie, while an error allowed Brozick to score an unearned run as well.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, SBU starter Jordan Crane shut down the SJU offense for the remainder of the game to finish the complete game for his fourth win of the season. He allowed just one run and two hits to go with four walks and six strikeouts. Alex Pracher took the loss for SJU, going five and two-thirds innings and allowing four runs on six hits. Pracher walked three and struck out seven.
The teams will play the rubber game of the weekend set on Sunday. First pitch at Fred Handler Park is scheduled for noon.
