PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's will again partner with WNTP Radio (990 AM) to broadcast 24 men's basketball games this season. Internet audio streaming of every game will be also be available free of charge on SJUHawks.com.
SJU also announced that Matt Martucci will take over the play-by-play duties, replacing Tom McCarthy, who had held the post for the past six years. McCarthy, the television play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies, will continue to call college basketball games on CBS College Sports television. Joe Lunardi, SJU's assistant vice president and ESPN "Bracketologist", enters his 19th year as the Hawks' color analyst.
Martucci, a 2006 graduate of Syracuse University, has been with the Saint Joseph's Sports Network for the past three seasons. He served as the backup play-by-play announcer for men's basketball and has called a number of games in the past few years. He has also called the action for Saint Joseph's women's basketball via internet streaming and is a producer for Phil Martelli's HawkTalk television show. A native of Brodheadsville, Pa., he previously worked at WAER in Syracuse and ESPN 1450 in Atlantic City.
The first broadcast on WNTP this season will be on Tuesday, November 17, when the Hawks host Holy Cross at 7 p.m. WNTP will also carry all three SJU games from the Paradise Jam on November 20-23 (check schedule for game times).
Saint Joseph's will work with Stretch Internet to provide internet audio streaming via SJUHawks.com. Every broadcast will be offered free of charge.
This marks the fourth year of the association between Saint Joseph's and WNTP.
