SAN FRANCISCO - Saint Joseph's men's basketball team will look to continue its string of success in California when it opens play in the Northwestern Mutual Shootout against UC-Davis on Friday, December 10 at the University of San Francisco. Game time is 5:30 p.m. PST (8:30 EST) at the War Memorial Gymnasium. San Francisco will host Longwood in the second game at 8:00 p.m. PST.

This trip marks the fourth consecutive year that the Hawks have visited the Golden State during the regular season, and is the fifth trip to Northern California in Phil Martelli's 10 years. Last season, SJU played in the Pete Newell Challenge in Oakland, defeating California, 59-57. Counting the Hawks' NCAA appearance in San Diego in 2001, it totals five consecutive visits to California, with a cumulative record of 5-3.

SJU is coming off a 59-51 win over Fairfield in the home opener last Tuesday to improve to 2-2. Chet Stachitas had 14 points and Dwayne Jones had his third straight double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

UC-Davis is 2-3 on the season having lost to Pacific, 78-63, on Wednesday.

The game will not be televised, but will be broadcast via the Saint Joseph's Sports Network on WPEN-Radio (950 AM). The game can also be heard via audio streaming on

The winners and losers of Friday's games will meet on Saturday at either 5:30 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. PST. San Francisco is locked into the 8:00 game because of television, so the pairings will be adjusted accordingly.
