LIMEPORT, PA (04/09/02) - A five-run fifth by Lehigh broke open a 6-6 tie and carried the Mountain Hawks to a 14-7 victory over Saint Joseph's at Limeport Stadium's "Lefty" Fegely Field. Hawks' senior Justin Godusky, a native of nearby Macungie, Pa., went 3-3 with a couple of walks in his homecoming. Sophomore Jason Tarewicz also reached base five times with two hits and three walks. With the loss SJU fell to 4-26-1, while Lehigh improved to 15-12-1. After Lehigh jumped out to a 4-1 lead, SJU rallied for five runs in a rainy third inning to seize a 6-4 lead. Junior Kevin Dougher doubled down the left field line to start the inning and senior Pace Bradshaw walked. A sacrifice bunt by sophomore Bill McCollum moved the runners along and then Godusky walked to load the bases. Junior Mike Walls followed with another walk to force in a run. Walls was followed by freshman Brian Anecharico, who smoked a two-run single. An RBI single by junior Chris McLaughlin and a sacrifice fly by sophomore Anthony DelGaudio accounted for SJU's final two runs. . Lehigh added single runs in the third and fourth inning to tie the game and chased Hawk starter sophomore Erik Holman from the game. Lehigh then erupted for five runs in the fifth inning off Hawk reliever freshman Al Braun to reclaim the lead for good. They would add three more runs in the eighth inning for insurance. SJU scratched back with a single run in the sixth inning, when McCollum drove home Dougher. Braun took the loss for SJU, falling to 0-8 on the year. The Crimson and Gray will play Villanova on Wednesday at Richie Ashburn Field and then host Fordham in a three-game Atlantic 10 series.
