NORRISTOWN, PA (04/21/02) - Seniors Pace Bradshaw and Justin Godusky and junior Mike Walls each had three hits to lead the Saint Joseph's University baseball team to a 10-6 victory over Atlantic 10 East leader St. Bonaventure at Latshaw-McCarthy Field. The win helped SJU to improve to 10-30-1, 6-9 in the A-10, while SBU slipped to 17-8, 9-5 A-10. Sophomore Erik Vardijan was again impressive on the hill for the Crimson and Gray. Vardijan (2-3) tossed 8.0 strong innings, allowing just five hits and a pair of runs, while striking out a career-high nine. Conversely, St. Bona starter Matt Gunesch (3-2) hurled just 4.0 innings and surrendered 12 hits and nine runs. Staking an early 2-0 lead, SJU built up a 9-0 advantage before cruising to the 10-6 win. The Hawks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, when Godusky smashed a two-run single to centerfield that scored Bradshaw and junior Kevin Dougher. For Godusky, who went 3-5 with two runs and four RBI, it was the 200th hit of his Hawk career. He is the ninth Hawk to reach 200, joining Bradshaw, who accomplished the feat earlier in the week The big inning for St. Joe's was the third, sending ten men to the plate and pushing across five runs. Three straight singles by Bradshaw, Godusky and sophomore Bill McCollum loaded the bases. Walls then crushed a bases-clearing three-run double to deep centerfield. Junior John Kokol's followed Walls by hitting a two-run homer to right to make it 7-0. A two-run homer by Godusky, his eighth of the year and fifteenth of his career, in the fourth made it 9-0. Each team then added a run in the fifth and the Bonnies tacked on one run in the eighth and four in the ninth to make the game interesting. In addition to Godusky, Walls went 3-5 with three RBI and extended his hitting streak to 13 in a row for SJU. Bradshaw was also 3-5. Eric Wilson went 2-5 with two runs and two RBI for SBU, while Mike Sedor added a pair of hits. The Hawks have three games slated for this week, beginning with a contest at Penn on Monday at 4:30.
