PHILADELPHIA, PA (05/16/01) - Seniors Kevin Kirkby and Eric Wyatt were named to the 2001 Atlantic 10 All-Conference baseball teams. Kirkby was a first team selection at second base and a second team choice as a relief pitcher. Wyatt was named to the second team as an outfielder. The fabulous tandem combined to do it all for SJU with one of the two players finishing as the team's leader in hits, runs, doubles, triples, stolen bases, ERA, strikeouts, and saves. Kirkby, who missed just one game in his Hawk career and finished as the school's all-time leader in games played, led the team with a .392 batting average. A first team pick in 2000, as well, he was the engine at the middle of the Hawks attack. He finished second on the squad with 38 runs and 41 RBI, while also rapping 10 doubles and a pair of round trippers. On the hill, he was nearly flawless, posting a 1-1 record with a 7 saves and a miniscule 1.74 ERA. Kirkby is the first player since 1999 to be honored as an All-A10 choice at two different positions. The 7 saves were an SJU single season and career record. Wyatt also was a versatile two-way performer. At the plate he hit .324 with a team leading numbers of 41 runs, 18 doubles, 2 triples and 13 stolen bases. On the mound he was the team's ace, leading the team in strikeouts and finishing with 4 wins. Both players were also named to the Verizon Academic All-District first team.
