Greg Kumpel Voted Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's baseball sophomore Greg Kumpel was voted the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. It is the first career weekly award for Kumpel.

The Cornwall, New York native was 4-for-5 in Friday night's thrilling 11-10 victory over Texas-San Antonio, scoring three runs in the series-opening win. On Saturday, he was 2-for-4 in the first game of a doubleheader as the Hawks took that one, 3-0.

Kumpel finished the week hitting at a scorching .438 clip for the four-game set with the Roadrunners. His .421 average for the season leads the squad, as does his .474 slugging mark.

Villanova's Kyle Helisek was named the Big 5 Pitcher of the Week in the same vote.

The Hawks play at Delaware on Wednesday afternoon before heading to North Carolina for games against UNC-Wilmington, Holy Cross, and Elon.

Wednesday's first pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m. in Newark.
