Phil Martelli Honored by New Jersey Sportswriters

EDISON, NJ - Saint Joseph's Phil Martelli added yet another award to his resume when he was named the 2004 College Coach of the Year by the New Jersey Sports Writers Association at the group's 69th annual awards banquet today at the Pines Manor.

The banquet annually honors coaches, athletes and others from the world of amateur and professional sports.

Others honored at the banquet included Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas; Troy Vincent of the Buffalo Bills; NHL analyst John Davidson; NFL Hall of Famer Elvin Bethea; women's soccer Olympic gold medalists Christie Pearce Rampone and Heather O'Reilly; and last year's NCAA basketball scoring leader Keydren Clark of Saint Peter's.

Guest speakers included current New Jersey governor Richard J. Codey and former governor Honorable Brendan T. Byrne.
