CAMDEN, N.J. - Sophomore outfielder Tim Craig was 2-for-4 with two doubles and drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth as Team Crimson scored a 3-2 victory over Gray Squad in Game 1 of the 2011 Crimson and Gray World Series at Campbell's Field on Friday night.

Junior catcher Eddie Palmer was hit by a pitch with two outs in a 2-2 game before Craig strode to the plate and ripped a double to the base of the fence in the left field corner to plate Palmer with the eventual game-winning run.

Sophomore catcher Cody Silverman drove in both runs for Gray Squad in the defeat.

The win gives Team Crimson a 1-0 advantage in the second annual intra-squad event; Gray Squad took the series last year.

Team Crimson opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as sophomore designated hitter Nuri Gunes scored on a double play groundout by Craig.

Gray Squad got on the board in the fourth on an RBI groundout by Silverman, but Team Crimson went back ahead in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by senior first baseman Kevin Taylor.

Silverman equalized for Gray Squad once again in the sixth, knotting the game at 2-2 with a two-out single down the right field line.

However, Team Crimson answered once again in the bottom half as Craig just missed a home run, netting his second extra-base hit of the game and giving Team Crimson a lead it would not relinquish.

Sophomore Daniel Thorpe earned the win, while sophomore Brett Koliani was tagged with the loss. Sophomore Jimmy Yacabonis struck out the side in the ninth to notch the save.

Junior lefthander Shane Carey started for Team Crimson and tossed three shutout innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three. Sophomore righthander Mike Muha started for Gray Squad, allowing a run on two hits, fanning four.

Game 2 is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. on Saturday at Campbell's Field. As a winter storm watch is in effect for the Greater Philadelphia region, check in with SJUHawks.com for up-to-the-minute information about any potential scheduling changes.
