Hawk Bats Stifled at Villanova; Baseball Falls 13-0

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA - The Saint Joseph's baseball team had a rough outing on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the rival Villanova Wildcats by the score of 13-0 in a Liberty Bell Classic game. Junior Jeremy Jakubowski singled in the fourth, and sophomore Ben Wendle doubled in the seventh to provide all the offense the Hawks could muster against the Wildcat pitching staff.

Villanova (13-10) scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the sixth, and three in the eighth. The Wildcats pounded out 20 hits and capitalized on four Hawk errors during the game.

Senior Jeff Williams started for Saint Joseph's (4-20) and worked three innings, surrendering three runs on six hits. Sophomore Justin Trudell worked two scoreless innings in relief, striking out three.

SJU will travel to North Carolina to take on the Charlotte 49ers in Atlantic 10 action this week. The first game of the series, moved up for the Easter holiday, is Thursday night at Charlotte's Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
