NORRISTOWN, PA - A five run fifth inning broke open a close game and St. Bonaventure (22-17, 12-6 A-10) completed a three-game weekend sweep of Saint Joseph's (10-40, 4-17 A-10) in Atlantic 10 baseball action at Latshaw-McCarthy Field, 10-5. Matt Godusky and Ryan Stadanlick each had a couple of hits for the Hawks, while senior Joe Mucci tossed 4.1 innings of scoreless relief in his final home game.
SBU broke on top scoring three times in the third inning, but SJU tallied a pair of runs in the hmoe half of the third to make is a 3-2 ballgame.
The Bonnies added two more runs in the fourth to lead 5-2, and then quelled a Hawk threat in the bottom of the inning as SJU put runners on second and third with one out but could not score.
A five run fifth inning outburst broke open the game and knocked SJU starter Al Braun (2-5) from the game. Braun allowed 10 runs (eight earned) and 10 hits in 4.2 innings. He was relieved by Mucci who shut the Bonnies down the rest off the way giving up just one hit over the final 4.1.
The Hawks tacked on three more runs in the sixth off Bona starter Nate Cameron. Cameron, who evened his record at 2-2 with the win, surrendered five runs on nine hits. Brian Pellegrini tossed the final three innings without allowing a hit to earn his sixth save.
In addition to Mucci, fellow seniors Bill McCollum and Jason Tarewicz were recognized in pregame ceremonies.
SJU travels to La Salle on Wednesday and then concludes the regular season with a three-game series at RHode Island next weekend.
