PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's freshman Ryan Pater and graduate student Alex Pracher were tabbed as Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball weekly award winners on Tuesday. Pater was voted the organization's Player of the Week, while Pracher earned Co-Pitcher of the Week honors.
Pracher shared the honor with Dan Moller of Temple. He also secured Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week accolades on Monday.
Pater went 6-for-13 (.462) in the three-game weekend set against George Washington to lead the Hawk offense, hitting safely in all three games. He was 3-for-5 on Friday, including a double in the bottom of the 11th inning that put runners on second and third with nobody out; the Hawks scored the winning run one batter later. Pater also had two hits, driving in a run and scoring one, on Saturday, while his RBI double in the fifth brought home the lone SJU run in a narrow 2-1 loss on Sunday afternoon.
Pracher allowed just two hits and five walks while striking out 10 in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Colonials that clinched the weekend series for the Hawks. After loading the bases with two down in the first, he got out of the inning with a strikeout and didn't look back, retiring seven straight batters early on and not allowing a hit over the final four and a third innings of the game.
The Hawks travel to Seton Hall on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt before returning to Hawk Hill to host La Salle for a weekend series. First pitch at Smithson Field is set for 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawks will also honor the members of the Class of 2012 with the annual Senior Day presentation before the game.
