PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track when it returns to Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse to host Bucknell (7-4) on Tuesday, December 28. Game time is 7 p.m. The contest will not be televised, but the Saint Joseph's Sports Network will broadcast all of the action on WPEN-Radio (950 AM).
The Hawks suffered a disappointing 66-62 loss at Old Dominion on December 22 to drop to 3-4 on the season. Despite shooting 51 percent from the field, SJU committed a season-high 23 turnovers.
Chet Stachitas scored 19 points in the game although he was still slowed some by an ankle injury suffered on Dec. 11. Pat Carroll connected on 7-of-11 shots en route to 17 points while Dwayne Jones had 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Stachitas continues to lead the Hawks in scoring with 14.4 points per game, followed by Jones with 12.4 and Carroll with 11.8. In the NCAA statistics compiled last week, Jones ranked third in the nation with his rebounding average of 12.6.
A familiar face will be on the other bench on Tuesday night. Bucknell freshman John Griffin is the son of former SJU player and coach John Griffin. The elder Griffin played for the Hawks from 1975 to 1978 and was head coach from 1990 to 1995. Phil Martelli was a member of Griffin's staff before taking over the Hawk program in 1995-96.
As with all SJU games at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse, tomorrow's is sold out, but a limited number of tickets may be available on the day of the game by contacting the SJU ticket office at 610-660-1712.
