Crimson Defeats Gray, 61-50, in Midnight Madness Scrimmage

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team gave the SJU students and fans their first look at the Hawks in an intra-squad Crimson vs. Gray scrimmage in the annual Midnight Madness event at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.

An enthusiastic student contingent turned out to watch Crimson defeat the Gray squad, 61-50.

Abdulai Jalloh led Crimson with 18 points while classmate Pat Calathes chipped in 12. Arvydas Lidzius addd nine points and Rob Ferguson had eight.

For the Gray team, sophomore walk-on Pete Kathopoulis led the way with 14 points, as he converted four 3-pointers. Dwayne Lee had 13 and freshman Ahmad Nivins had six, including a slam from a offensive rebound. Jordan Fowler also added six points.

Jalloh got the crowd into the game right away as he stole a pass on the first possession and went in for a breakaway dunk. Chet Stachitas and Ferguson hit consecutive three's to give Crimson a 9-0 lead.

The Gray team fought back, but at the end of the first 10-minute period, Crimson led 22-21. After a tie at 30-30, Crimson took command of the game, leading 43-37 at the end of the second period.

Every player on the roster saw action with the exception of freshman Edwin Lashley, who is sidelined indefinitely with mononucleosis.
