NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's senior first baseman Kevin Taylor was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week the league announced on Monday afternoon. Taylor helped lead the Hawks to a 4-0 week, including a road sweep of league-leading Saint Louis.
Taylor hit .471 last week as the Hawks won all four of their games. On April 3, his RBI single brought home the Hawks' third run of the game, which proved critical as SJU held on for a 3-2 win over Delaware to advance to the Liberty Bell Classic championship game at Citizens Bank Park.
At Saint Louis, Taylor went 6-for-13 with three runs batted in as the Hawks swept the then-first place Billikens. In the series opener, he singled and scored the tying run in the sixth inning as SJU went on to win, 3-2, in 13 innings.
On Friday, Taylor singled in a run in the first inning and then added a much-needed insurance run in the sixth on his way to a 3-for-4 night in a 5-3 Hawk win. He capped off his week with two hits and a run batted in as the Hawks used an eight-run fourth to sweep Saint Louis with a 10-4 victory.
Taylor and the Hawks will host Delaware on Wednesday afternoon before Atlantic 10 leader Massachusetts visits the Maguire Campus April 13-15. Live stats and streaming audio for all four games will be available at SJUHawks.com.
