NORRISTOWN, Pa. (04/18/01) - A 19 hit attack by Rider (16-18) keyed the Broncs to a 14-3 win over St. Joseph's (13-17-1) at Latshaw McCarthy Field. Eric Wyatt played well for the Crimson and Gray, going 3-5 at the plate with two runs scored, a stolen base and a RBI. A four-run third inning by RU opened up the game, but three runs apiece in both the seventh and eighth innings put the game out of reach. The Hawk attack pushed across single runs in the first, third and seventh innings. Twice SJU threatened to jump back in the game by loading the bases, but the Hawks were unable to knock in any runs. On the hill, senior Ryan Woods started the game, surrendering six runs in 3.1 innings. He suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 on the year. Four other Hawks saw action in relief, including senior Don Peterson, sophomore Mike Walls and freshmen Scott Gehringer and Bill McCollum. Joining Wyatt in the Hawk attack was sophomore Rich Caloiero, who also had three base hits. Tim Gunn finished the game with 6 putouts and now has 961 for his career to set the SJU career mark in that category. Jason Hamilton (1991-93) held the previous school record for career putouts with 955. After a long break from Conference action, SJU returns to Atlantic 10 play on Friday with a doubleheader at La Salle beginning at noon. SJU hosts the Temple Owls on Sundat also at noon.
