BOXSCORE2 NEWARK, DE (2/28/04) - The University of Delaware (2-4) rallied from a two-run deficit in the ninth inning to win game one, 9-8, and then rolled in game two, 19-4, to sweep a doubleheader from Saint Joseph's (1-7) at Bob Hannah Stadium. In game one, Delaware built a 4-1 lead , but Saint Joseph's fought back in the top of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 5-4 lead. The teams then traded runs in the fifth, before UD knotted the game at 6-6 in the bottomof the seventh. Saint Joseph's scored twice in the top of the ninth on a Jason Tarewicz double to take an 8-6 lead. Delaware, however, rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to earn its first win of the season. UD freshman Mitch Heckert picked up the win in game one, tossing three innings while allowing two earned runs and striking out four, Joe Mucci suffered the loss for the Hawks. Tarewicz had a double, tripe and home run for SJU in the opener. In game two, Delaware jumped all over Hawks early, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning off Bill McCollum and Jeff Williams. The Hens then tallied twice in both the second and third innings and five times in the fourth to build a commanding 19-1 lead after five. Blue Hen junior Scott Rambo earned the win in game two, striking out five in five innings of work. Williams suffered his first loss of the season in game two. Tarewicz walked three times for SJU, while frehsman Kevin Walsh had a pair of hits and tscored two runs. Matt Godusky drove in a pair. The Hawks and Hens conclude the series with a game tomorrow at Bob Hannah Stadium at 1:00 PM.
