PHILADELPHIA, PA, (03/20/01) - The SJU baseball team (5-9-1) extended its unbeaten streak to five games with a 11-5 win over Villanova (7-7-1) at Richie Ashburn Field in South Philadelphia. Senior Eric Wyatt powered the Hawks with a 10 strikeout performance on the mound and a 5 RBI effort at the plate. Leading the game 5-3 in the sixth inning, SJU erupted for six runs in the sixth inning to break the game open and pull away. The Hawks opened the inning by loading the bases on back-to-back singles and a walk. Jim Reilly then smacked a base hit to drive in Justin Godusky and Kevin Kirkby. After Tim Gunn reached on a fielder's choice, Pace Bradshaw singled to load the bases. A single by Tom Gibson plated another run. Then Wyatt helped his own cause by smacking a three-run double off of the wall in left centerfield. On the hill, Wyatt was brilliant to improve to 2-1 on the year. He threw five strong innings allowing three runs. He also struckout 10. Mike Minerva relieved Wyatt, tossing the final 2.1 innings. Reilly, Bradshaw and Mike DeVincentis each finiashed with three hits. With his first hit Devincentis rapped the 200th of his career. He is the fifth Hawk in school history to reach the milestone. SJU travels to Lehigh on Wednesday and then opens the A-10 slate with a three game series against George Washington at Latshaw-McCarthy Field.
