An enthusiastic crowd of close to 2,000 came to Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse to catch the first glimpse of the Saint Joseph's men's and women's basketball teams at the annual Midnight Madness event.

The Fieldhouse was turned into a carnival-type atmosphere with games, including dodge ball, a slam dunk contest and obstacle course, with many prizes given away.

Head coaches Cindy Griffin and Phil Martelli each addressed the crowd. Martelli recited the Hawks' stellar record in the Fieldhouse over the years. He called on the students to provide that homecourt advantage again this year.

The men's and women's teams were introduced and participated in layup lines and a few short shooting drills.

The men's team opens the 2004-05 season on November 23 at Kansas while the womens' squad tips off on November 12, hosting Boston University in the Preseason WNIT>
