PHILADELPHIA - Tentative non-conference dates have been announced for the 2005-06 Saint Joseph's men's and women's basketball schedules, while the Atlantic 10 home and away opponents have also been determined.
The men's squad will open the year at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse against Lafayette on November 18. Other early non-conference games for the Hawks will be road games at Fairfield (Nov. 21) and Davidson (Nov. 26) and the first Palestra game of the year versus Drexel on November 29.
The Hawks will participate in the annual Jimmy V Classic on December 6 at Madison Square Garden, taking on Kansas. Other games before Christmas include a December 10 date with Ohio State at the Palestra and a visit to Bucknell on December 21. Saint Joseph's will again ring in the New Year on the road, going west to face St. Mary's on December 28 and continuing the rivalry with Gonzaga on New Year's Eve. Big 5 games at the Palestra with Penn on January 28 and rival Villanova on February 7 round out the non-conference slate.
SJU men's basketball will face Atlantic 10 opponents George Washington, Temple and Xavier twice next season, both home and away. The Hawks will play Charlotte, Fordham, Richmond, St. Bonaventure at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse and host La Salle and Temple at the Palestra. SJU will go on the road to meet Dayton, Duquesne, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Saint Louis.
Saint Joseph's women's team has its '05-06 opener tentatively scheduled for November 18 against Princeton. The Hawks will host North Carolina State on November 20, visit Bucknell on November 27 and host Seton Hall on November 30. SJU will travel to the Kansas State Tournament on December 2-3 and visit Big 5 rivals Penn (Dec. 7) and Villanova (Dec. 10). Saint Joseph's will travel to Hartford on December 21 and host the Hawk Classic on December 28-29.
The SJU women will play conference opponents Fordham, La Salle and Temple twice next season, with home and away games. The Hawks will host Duquesne, George Washington, Dayton, Rhode Island and Saint Louis. SJU will travel to face Charlotte, Massachusetts, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, and Xavier.
The Atlantic 10 Conference schedule for both teams will be finalized later this summer.
