PHILADELPHIA - Pat Carroll scored a career-high 29 points while Dwayne Jones added 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead Saint Joseph's past Xavier 67-59 on Saturday.
Carroll connected on 9 of 15 field goals, including 7 of 11 from 3-point territory. Jones recorded his ninth double-double this season for the Hawks (9-8, 6-1 Atlantic 10).
The Hawks led 38-25 at halftime and extended their lead to 47-28 with 16:52 remaining.
The Musketeers (9-8, 3-4) responded with a 17-2 run to cut the lead to 49-45 with 11:02 left. But Carroll hit four clutch free throws in the final 29.8 seconds to seal the victory.
Justin Doellman led Xavier with 16 points while Stanley Burrell added 15.
It was fourth time this season that Carroll scored at least 20 points. His previous career-high was a 27-point effort on Feb. 23, 2003 against St. Bonaventure.
Jones entered the game averaging a double-double of 10.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
