NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's freshman infielder Stefan Kancylarz was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Rookie of the week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is the first weekly honor for Kancylarz this season.
The Mount Laurel, N.J., native hit safely in all four of SJU's games this week, including multi-hit games against Villanova, Binghamton, and Buffalo.
His second hit against Buffalo was the biggest as his bases-loaded, two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Hawks a lead they would not relinquish in Saturday's 5-2 victory.
Kancylarz hit .421 (8-for-19) with a pair of runs scored and four runs batted in for the week. He also displayed his versatility, starting games at both shortstop and third base.
Kancylarz currently leads the Hawks in hits, at bats, runs scored, RBI, and walks.
Saint Joseph's returns to the diamond on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game with Lehigh.
