PHILADELPHIA (1/4/04) - Saint Joseph's point guard Jameer Nelson has been named the Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Co-Player of the Week for the week ending January 3, sharing the honor with Gary Neal of La Salle. It marks the fourth conference honor for Nelson this season, and the ninth in his career. The National Player of the Year candidate led the 10th-ranked Hawks to two wins last week as Saint Joseph's extended its winning streak to 11 games, for the best-ever start in school history. He followed that 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the conference opener vs. GW. Nelson shot 18-for-23 from the field and 9-for-10 from the foul line on the week. On the season, Nelson is averaging 19.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.6 steals. The 11-0 Hawks head on the road for a pair of games this week.
