PHILADELPHIA - Former Saint Joseph's standout Jameer Nelson was cited by Philadelphia Magazine in its annual "Best of Philly" issue (August). The Orlando Magic star was named the city's "Best Export".
Nelson was recognized for his leadership in organizing a trip to Philadelphia every year for his teammates, at his expense, called "Magic Week". Nelson sets up basketball, conditioning and team-bonding activities for his teammates, in which all participate.
The former Hawk completed his sixth season in the NBA in 2009-10 and has now played in 394 games, with 299 starts. Named an All-Star in 2009, Nelson is averaging 12.4 points and 4.6 assists in his career.
