HARRISONBURG, VA (03/10/02)- James Madison racked up a school-record 26 hits in a 17-1 win against Saint Joseph's to complete a three-game series sweep in non-conference college baseball Sunday at Long Field. The Dukes improved to 14-4 for the program's best 18-game record since the 1988 season. SJU fell to 1-9-1. The Hawks trailed the game early 3-0, but finally got on the board in the third inning. Junior Mike DeLorenzo scored for SJU trotting home on an RBI double by fellow junior Kevin Dougher. JMU, however scored in each of the final five frames to pull away for the win. Junior right-hander John Gouzd worked seven innings on the mound to earn the victory and improve to 3-1 for the Dukes. Senior Mike Minerva started for SJU and tossed five innings, scattering 12 hits and giving up seven runs. He fell to 0-2 on the season. Monday will be a travel day for the Hawks, as SJU heads south to Charlotte. The Crimsoan and Gray will play single games against Charlotte on Tueasday and Wednesday. Action both days begins at 4:00 PM .
