PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's sophomore lefthander Steven Schuler was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Pitcher of the Week, it was announced on Monday afternoon. Schuler appeared in three games this week and notched a pair of wins as the Hawks took two of three in their weekend series at St. Bonaventure.

Schuler tossed four and two-thirds shutout innings over the course of the week, allowing just two hits and holding opposing hitters to a .133 average. He allowed one hit in a scoreless inning against Rider on April 24 before taking the hill on April 27 at St. Bonaventure. He entered the game with the Hawks trailing by a run and retired the last hitter of the eighth inning before SJU roared back for six runs to take a 7-2 lead. Schuler then retired the Bonnies in order in the ninth to secure the win for Saint Joseph's.

The Pitman, New Jersey native earned his second win of the weekend on Sunday as the Hawks once again came from behind to clinch the series victory. Schuler came on in the sixth with SBU on top, 3-2, and worked into the ninth as the Hawks scored five times to take the lead en route to an eventual 7-3 triumph.

Schuler has been outstanding this season, appearing in 22 of SJU's 43 games and posting a 4-0 record with a 1.78 earned run average in 30.1 innings pitched. The sophomore has recorded a strikeout-to-walk ration of better than two-to-one over the course of the season and has notched three saves, good for second on the squad.

The Hawks are idle until Friday afternoon when they host the George Washington Colonials. First pitch on the Maguire Campus is set for 3:00 p.m.
