PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Big 5 is partnering with Pack Network to present live coverage of the 2011 Big 5 Hall of Fame Induction at The Palestra on Friday, Jan. 21 at 11:30 a.m. The event will be free to view. The Class of 2011 consists of basketball standouts Rashid Bey (Saint Joseph's 1994-98), Rick Brunson (Temple 1991-95), Jewel Clark (Penn 2001-04), Kerry Kittles (Villanova 1992-96), and Stacey Smalls (Temple 1999-2003).
Joining Bey in the Class of 2011 are Rick Brunson (Temple), Jewel Clark (Penn), Kerry Kittles (Villanova) and Stacey Smalls (Temple).
Bey, who starred for the Hawks from 1994 to 1998, was the first player in SJU history, and now one of two, to earn the Big 5 MVP award in back-to-back seasons (1997, 1998).
As a junior, the 5-11 guard helped the Hawks win the 1997 Atlantic 10 Championship, while being named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. He averaged 15.0 points and 4.6 assists and earned Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team honors. Bey was also named to the NCAA All-West Region team as Saint Joseph's advanced to the 1997 NCAA Sweet 16.
In his senior season, the native of Philadelphia and St. John Neumann High School product led the Hawks in five categories, while averaging 16.9 points and 4.8 assists. He was an All-A-10 Second Team selection.
Bey, who finished his career with 1,316 points and 509 assists, remains just one of three Hawks to record over 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career. He was inducted into the Saint Joseph's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2005.
