Hawks Found on Many of the Best of 2004 Lists

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's run to the perfect season and the NCAA Elite Eight has been cited in many year-end reviews as one of the best sports stories of 2004. The Hawks' 2003-04 season was named the top Philadelphia sports story of the year as voted by readers of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Hawks captured the attention of the nation with their run to the perfect regular season, a number-one national ranking, a 30-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Elite Eight, which ended just two points shy of the Final Four. The selfless and dignified play of the Hawks earned the respect of media and fans from all over.

Jameer Nelson and Phil Martelli swept the national Player and Coach of the Year Awards, while Nelson and teammate Delonte West went on to become NBA First Round Draft picks.
